Are you exploring Zoom meetings for your virtual meetups and activities? This guide shares everything needed to set up and use Zoom effectively.
The whole world currently seems to be working from the comfort of their homes.
Thanks to the ability to have virtual meetings, you’re now able to give presentations in pajama pants. You also don’t have to worry about awkward handshakes.
Zoom is a virtual platform that allows individuals to meet together in a virtual gathering space. It’s great for business meetings, group hangouts, and contactless group activities.
The platform can be tricky to figure out so we’ve provided a how-to on Zoom meetings below. Make sure to keep reading in order to guarantee success for your next virtual meeting.
On a stable internet connection, you’ll want to start by heading to Zoom’s official site and signing up. You’ll be offered several plans, but most people go with the free plan. If you need to host more than 100 people or meet for extended periods of time, look into the paid plans.
During the pandemic, Zoom has waived some restrictions for educators in order to allow for easier online classes. If you’re a teacher, you can submit a request to Zoom asking for the time ban to be lifted for your school.
Once you sign up, either using an email or Facebook account, you’ll click the “Create Account” button. You’ll then want to download the Zoom app on your computer and/or smartphone.
Next, you’ll want to attend or set up a Zoom meeting.
Meeting on Zoom
There are several options for meeting on Zoom. You can either immediately host a meeting, schedule a meeting, or join a meeting.
If you click on “Host a Meeting”, you’ll immediately open up a virtual meeting room. You can choose to either have your video function on or off in the room.
Do you need to schedule a meeting with other remote workers? Click “Schedule a Meeting”. You’ll choose a time, date, and other options, and then you’ll be given an invite link to share with everyone.
Hop into an active meeting by clicking “Join a Meeting”. You’ll enter the meeting ID number given within a Zoom invite to join the correct meeting space.
During the Meeting
There are several functions to explore once you’re in the Zoom meeting space.
If you’re the meeting host, you can record Zoom meetings by clicking the record button at the bottom of the screen. You can also show visuals on your screen with the group by using the screen share option.
Participants can also choose between turning their audio and video on or off. During the meeting, all participants may chat on the messenger feature if allowed by the host.
