The standard rate for real estate referrals is 25% but this is just a baseline to work from. It can really be whatever you want it to be and can change based on the situation, the relationship of the people involved, and the market.   8. 88% of buyers and 84% of sellers would use their agent again or refer them to others.

While marketing funnels, advertising, and prospecting can generate much business, there is still no channel as powerful as referrals and repeat business. Reaching out to your past clients and consistently touching base with everyone in your sphere of influence is an essential strategy that you need to have in place. 4 Tips for a Healthy Referral Pipeline

  1. Start investing before the big sale. The relationship a realtor has with their clients is built upon every interaction they have, from beginning to end. Take advantage of every opportunity to strengthen that relationship, and establish yourself as not just a “salesman” in their life, but a friend who’s genuinely looking out for them. For example, gifts are often reported as a very effective way to do this. Celebrate every milestone on the journey to closing; did the seller pass inspection after a lot of hard work on repairs and upgrades? Send a bottle of champagne!
  2. Cultivate the relationship beyond the sale. The celebration doesn’t stop just because the deal closed. Part of building that relationship extends beyond the closing. You should be strengthening that relationship and staying ever so slightly on their mind, year round. You can do this by continuing to celebrate milestones, like the 1-year anniversary of when they closed on their new house for example. But don’t limit yourself, celebrate anything that’s important to your client too, like their firstborn or the opening of a business. Time for another bottle!
  3. Make it personal, for them. Okay sending a nice bottle of wine or champagne to celebrate milestones and wins is great, but what if they don’t drink? It’s important to keep the whole experience about them, not you. During the entire process, you should be getting to know your clients, so that you can tailor gifts and other experiences around their own interests and preferences. You can even send them a curated list of gift options for the right occasion. But don’t forget the personalized message! Gifts are great, but stories are forever.
  4. Host some killer events. What better way to get people talking than to bring them all to an open bar? Seriously though, a surefire way to get your clients buzzing is to bring them to an event they’ll be talking about all week. This can be in-person or virtual, but keep it relatively intimate. Only invite 10-20 past and current clients, not counting their partner or family. This empowers them to network with each other and gets everyone talking about it to their own friends and family afterward. You’ll be a household name in no time!

Let’s break this down to a more granular level. If you want people to generate referrals, the most important thing is that they are happy with your product or service.

The question is how to *generate* more business through referrals. Referrals from a person who is recognized as an expert in the subject matter, whose motivations are clearly and demonstrably good, which comes with no strings attached – for example: ‘I think this man is an excellent lawyer. I know him personally.’ This type of referral has some intrinsic value. The highest level of referral value is when the person making the referral has a strong personal relationship with the recipient of the recommendation.

A person who receives a referral from someone they know and respect feels good about it because he or she knows what it means, even if he or she cannot put it into words. Relationship matters

If people like working with you, they will refer your work to their friends. You should take the necessary steps to make sure that they do this.

The key question is: what makes people compelled to give a good review? The answer is that you must bring value to your clients’ livelihoods. You need to understand the needs of other people and work towards making their lives better. If they are happy, then the chances that they would refer their friends and family will be high. Also, it is a testimony to your product or service.

If you have unhappy clients, then a bad review can be risky. But even in the case of unhappiness, it is important that you ensure that you follow up and ensure that their experience with your product or service was at least satisfactory enough for them to be willing to recommend others.

For example, if a customer is unhappy with the product and still wants to continue using it in order to save money, then he or she would not make a good referral. Referrals are only valuable when they mean something.

Therefore, if you want to generate referrals, it is important that your customers are happy with what they purchased from you. You have to make sure that their experience was satisfactory enough for them to feel comfortable recommending others.

3 Steps for improved referrals & lead traffic

 

1) Ask for reviews!

Start with your network and sphere of influence, friends, family colleagues. Ask them to write reviews on your social media pages, share your content and tell their own networks how awesome they think you are.

2) Ask for referrals!

According to studies by Neilsen, 84% of people trust recommendations from people they know.  Referred customers are about 18% more likely to stay rather than other customers. Creating ads, being visible on social media and other platforms is extremely important. The 3 R’s should most definitely be a part of your marketing strategies!

 

2) Build a Referral Program

Offering incentives and other perks for referrals can also be a great way not to just encourage them but to thank people for sending new opportunities your way. For example, did you know that if a referral sent to us signs up for one month of service with us, we give out a $400 referral incentive?

At what stage can a business owner begin affiliate, influencer, and referral marketing?

Stage? Start right away, even if you’re a start-up! You hardly have enough customers, so you can easily get your name out and get more. THEN, you start a referral program when you have a customer base

What is the difference between affiliate marketing and referral marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a form of referral marketing. Affiliates are getting money for the act of referring your customers to you, and they provide value to their referrals. A good affiliate marketer will be able to convert that customer into something new.

If you’re looking for a one-sentence definition, though: affiliate marketing is just referral marketing with money involved. But of course, there’s more to it than that.

The one thing that separates affiliate marketing from referral marketing is the price tag. When you’re working with an affiliate, there’s usually a commission that goes to them for bringing in new customers.

On the other hand, referral marketing is more personal. It doesn’t have that specific price tag associated with it.

A good affiliate marketer will be able to convert that customer into something new. For example, an affiliate might take a customer that has bought one product and then turn them into someone who buys three more products.

Affiliate Marketing vs Referral Marketing

With a referral program, companies will get customer’s network for an incentive (free product, discounts, etc)

Referral programs can help produce customer loyalty. Oftentimes in this type of program, referring a friend gets you a discount or extra incentives.

Affiliate programs are for people who are not part of your customer base and have their own audience, such as social media for influencers. They have followers and they can attract and promote your business or service.

They have not used your product or services, but they can promote you — they’ll get a percent or a fixed amount of monetary compensation

In short, influencers have a large level of followers, a large network, and a great audience reach.

How do you price an affiliate program?

To price an affiliate program, you’ll need an incentive formula. For a service business or a business with a recurring subscription fee, like MyOutDesk (MOD offers a one-time fee), you would want to come up with a higher number, such as a $40-per-month subscription. You can try pricing at 10-percent-per-month or $10-per-month — whichever works better, but usually what is higher!

In general, 10% is a good starting point. You can check out competitors and compare how much they’re giving away. Can you afford to offer something higher? You’d want to be competitive.

 

Recurring Fees / Subscriptions

You can offer a recurring commission for the life of the customer or for a set amount of time (such as for one year, or so). Define this in your affiliation TOS (terms of service).

OSI implements a 20% commission across the board for a fixed amount of time per successful sale of the customer life. Their plans start at $47 a month.

For influencers, prepare to pay higher based on the larger network or presence. Be prepared to do customization based on what the influencer or affiliate can bring.

What tools & processes does a business have to have in place when they are putting up an influencer + affiliate marketing?

Once your influencer + affiliate marketing is launched, you’ll require proper exposure to the program.

If no one knows you have it, you can’t attract the right influencer/affiliate (recruiting). Allow the program to be prominent on your site.  Describe what you can offer. Influencers will usually do keyword searches “affiliate program for PRODUCT/SERVICE”.

Search and reach out to find affiliates and influencers in your network.

Search on Instagram. Search for hashtags, for example, #chicagofashionblogger. You’ll be able to get a shortlist of influencers that you can gauge for followers. Use this same strategy on different social networks.

Offering the proper incentive.

If your offer is too low, they’re going to walk out and pass. Be competitive with your competitor’s affiliate programs!

Sure that you have the right tech, tools, and systems to manage your affiliate program.

Spreadsheets and manually tracking are OK, but not efficient. The software can make it more effective from the signup to the tracking to the dashboard. As you grow your base of affiliates and influencers, you won’t be able to follow through and track everyone.

On a case-by-case basis, you can figure out the high-hitting influencers who can work better with co-branding. Visualize the influencer face or brand along with your product or service to give yourself some reassurance and to make the right decision.

There are local influencers in your network that have a good amount of followers, smaller audience, not as glamorous, but they have better credibility and engagement with their smaller audience > remember, Tighter level of relationship with their followers > followers trust them MORE!
